Scope of works: Detail design, supply, installation, programming and control of the building wide BMS
The Grand Hotel is one of Birmingham most iconic buildings. Occupying a prominent and imposing position on Colmore Row, which is traditionally the city’s most prestigious address within the business district.
The Building Management System providing automatic control and monitoring functions for the HVAC and domestic services plant is based on the Tridium JACE 8000 controllers and the N4 platform. The Tridium JACE interfaces with open-protocol input/output controllers, and third-party equipment such as packaged AHUs and electricity meters, providing a link between the software and field devices. Bespoke graphics and a HMI (touchscreen) is provided on the panel fascia to the main panel to allow user access to the BMS. An identical HMI is also installed in reception to give access remotely from the panel. Through the HMI, the user is able to view status of plant / equipment, alter time schedules and adjust control set-points and view alarms. The system was design so to give a simple and innovative approach to the BMS, which reduces the “dark art” and give the operator the ability to maintain their own system.
