Client: Network Rail

Let by: NG Bailey

Control Solutions: Siemens Gamma KNX, Tridium

Scope of works: Detail design, supply, programming and commissioning of lighting control solution.

IBT Controls are proud to have carried out the implementation of Lighting Control System at Birmingham New Street Station, the busiest station outside London and the busiest interchange in the UK. This project has been awarded a “Very Good” BREEAM rating.

This sprawling campus is located in the heart of Birmingham City Centre and brings a fresh, modern look in keeping with the ongoing development of the Centre. This project was delivered whilst the Station was fully operational and the trains running.

Our system consists of addressable lighting, achieved via presence detection with constant lighting control, light sensors, and pushbutton interfaces across all concourses and platforms.

The logistics and operational capability to deliver a lighting control solution in a live rail setting was significant and ensured the experience and knowledge of the IBT team was fully utilised.

For this project, we also offered complex web-based Head End functionality featuring management and scheduling of DALI Lighting, fault monitoring of DALI controlled lighting, bespoke building visualisation of controlled elements and manual override. In addition to these features, we also provided fault condition controls and feedback on our master control panel doors with battery back-up.
